My name is Dave Weymer, but I have been called “Dazy” for the last 50
years. I have worked in the forest industry for most of my adult life as a
worker, a supervisor, and a trainer. I am perhaps best known in the industry for
pioneering danger tree blasting for fallers and for training other fallers how
to use explosives to bring down trees that are too dangerous to fall by
conventional means. In the last 10 years I have done danger tree mitigation, relief
supervision, and training through my company D/T Blasting Ltd. I continue to
train fallers in the use of explosives, do new faller training, basic chainsaw
training, and instruct the Vancouver Island University Fundamentals of Logging
course.
I have been a fierce advocate for worker safety; I sit on advisory
committees to both the BC Forest Safety Council and WorkSafeBC. as well as
taking on the occasional public speaking engagement to further the cause. I
live at beautiful Storey’s Beach, outside Port Hardy BC with my wonderful wife
Chrystal; in our spare time we travel a bit, ski at Mt Cain, traipse west coast
beaches, and kayak wherever there is water and beauty.
